Caleris uses OpenAI to provide AI coaching and other AI-powered features. Using AI features is your choice.
When you use an AI feature, Caleris sends your message to OpenAI, together with the Caleris information relevant to that request, so it can understand what you asked and reply with coaching that fits you. Depending on what you ask and where you ask it, that information can include:
Where you ask Caleris to remember something, or tell it something that reads as a lasting preference, Caleris may also use OpenAI to identify the useful lasting facts in what you said. Any memory created that way is stored by Caleris and may be used to personalize future AI coaching where that feature applies.
AI features are optional. Logging food, workouts and weight, scanning barcodes, editing your goals and the rest of Caleris keep working without it.
You can withdraw your permission for future AI requests at any time using the AI controls in Caleris app Settings, or by contacting us at support@caleris.ai. Withdrawing stops Caleris from sending new AI requests. It does not recall or delete information that was already sent to OpenAI before you withdrew.
OpenAI processes this content in order to return a response to Caleris. OpenAI's handling of that content is governed by its own applicable policies, published at https://openai.com/policies. Caleris does not make representations about how OpenAI stores or uses content beyond what those policies say.
Meal photo analysis is a separate, optional feature, and using it is your choice. It has its own permission: allowing AI coaching does not allow meal photo analysis, and allowing meal photo analysis does not allow AI coaching.
Caleris uses OpenAI to analyse meal photos. When you use the feature, the photograph itself is sent to OpenAI, together with any description you type with it, so it can work out what the meal is and estimate its nutrition.
Caleris does not intentionally store the image bytes of your meal photo in its application or database storage after the photo has been processed. The photograph does travel through Caleris server infrastructure and is transmitted to OpenAI for analysis, and Caleris cannot guarantee that no transient copy exists at every network, hosting or provider layer.
What Caleris does keep is the information derived from the analysis — the foods identified and the estimated nutrition — held temporarily as a candidate while you review it. A candidate you have not acted on stays active for about 60 minutes. Once a candidate has been confirmed, replaced or has expired, its record becomes eligible for cleanup after about seven days; that cleanup runs opportunistically as the feature is used, so it is not a guarantee that a record is removed at an exact moment.
Nothing is added to your food log from a photo until you confirm it. If you do confirm it, the resulting entry is an ordinary food log entry and is kept like the rest of your nutrition history.
You can turn photo analysis off at any time using the AI controls in Caleris app Settings, or by contacting us at support@caleris.ai. You can log meals by typing them or scanning a barcode without it.
As with AI coaching, OpenAI's handling of the photograph and description is governed by its own applicable policies, published at https://openai.com/policies. Caleris does not make representations about how OpenAI stores or uses that content beyond what those policies say.
Caleris does not sell your personal data to third parties, and we do not share your information with advertisers. We share information with the service providers below only to operate Caleris, and only to the extent each one needs:
Caleris uses essential cookies required for authentication, session security, and basic application functionality. These cookies allow you to sign in, stay signed in across pages, and access account-protected features. They are set by our authentication provider (Supabase) and are necessary for core account functionality and secure access to Caleris.
Caleris does not currently use advertising cookies, third-party tracking cookies, or behavioral analytics tools. We do not build advertising profiles, monitor your behavior across websites, apps, or devices, or share your activity with third-party advertisers.
If Caleris begins using non-essential cookies or analytics tools in the future, we will update this policy and provide a clear way for you to give or withhold consent where required by applicable law before those technologies are activated.
If you delete your account, we begin removing account-related personal data from our active systems, including profile information, goals, nutrition logs, workout logs, weigh-ins, daily logs, coaching-related records, any meal photo analysis results still held, your stored personalization memories, and your recorded AI permissions.
Deleting your account stops Caleris from sending anything further to our service providers, and removes the records we hold. It does not recall or delete information that was already sent to a service provider such as OpenAI before deletion, and Caleris does not control how a provider handles content it has already received.
Meal photo analysis has its own shorter lifetimes, described under Meal Photo Analysis.
Like most modern SaaS applications, limited backup copies may remain in secure backups for a short period after deletion. These backups are retained only for system recovery, security, and continuity purposes and are not used to provide active product features. Backup copies are typically deleted or overwritten within 30 days.
You may also request deletion of your account or personal data by contacting us at support@caleris.ai.
We may retain limited information when necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse, enforce our agreements, or maintain the security and integrity of Caleris.
